Ivan Redkach was born in 1986 in Shostka, Ukraine, and started boxing at six years old. He never looked back.
As a young athlete he trained at Brovarsky Sports Boarding School near Kyiv, the same school that helped develop Wladimir Klitschko, and became a Ukrainian national amateur champion. By 2008, after more than 300 amateur fights, he had earned a place with the Ukrainian National Team.
Coming to America with $300
In 2009, at twenty-three, Ivan left for the United States with $300 and a promise to bring home a champion. The first months were about survival. What carried him through was the same discipline he had built in the gym since childhood.
A career against the best
As a professional, Ivan built a record of 24-8-1 with 19 knockouts and earned the nickname "El Terrible." In 2014 he captured the IBF-USBA lightweight title with a decision win over Tony Luis. In 2015 he fought Dejan Zlaticanin in a lightweight world title eliminator on Showtime, and he later reached No. 3 in the WBA lightweight rankings. Along the way he shared the ring with Devon Alexander, Danny Garcia, Regis Prograis, Tevin Farmer, Argenis Mendez, and John Molina Jr., and trained under coaches including Robert Garcia and Shane Mosley.
From fighter to coach
Today that experience lives in his coaching. The fundamentals he drilled as a child, the resilience that got him through his first months in America, and the fight IQ he built against world-class opponents are the same things he now passes on to private clients, fighters preparing to compete, and young athletes connected to his foundation work.
